bulletRadar Ornithologists and Senior Radar Ornithologists: Entry and Senior level Radar Ornithologists positions supporting bird detection radar system set-up, operation, groundtruthing, measurement and analysis of the spatial distribution of birds and bats for aviation, wind farm, landfill and related projects. Duties and responsibilities will include field data collection, radar system operation and maintenance, processing and analysis using standard and custom software packages (including Arc 9, Matlab, MS Access, SQL and MS Excel). Conduct statistical analysis of bird distributions in time and space, compile draft technical reports for customers, provide processed data and graphical display output, and develop new data processing routines as needed for new projects. Requires minimum B.S. in avian biology, biology or related field and 3+ years of experience in avian survey. Radar operation experience and strong database skills a plus.

  • June 25, 2010 - DeTect's Scott McLaughlin Nominated for National Academy of Engineering Recognition - Scott McLaughlin, who heads DeTect's Meteorological Radar Systems Group, has been selected to take part in the US National Academy of Engineering's (NAE) 16th annual US Frontiers of Engineering symposium. Scott was recognized by fellow engineers and organizations nationwide for his efforts in exceptional engineering research and technical work. The symposium will be held September 23-25 at the IBM Learning Center in Armonk, New York. (more information)

  • June 7, 2010 - Rich Anderson Joins DeTect as Vice President of Security & Surveillance Systems - Rich Anderson has joined DeTect as the company's Vice President, Security & Surveillance Systems responsible for the company's HARRIER radar product line. Rich has over 15 years of experience in the security and surveillance industry having held positions with the US Navy, Honeywell Vindicator and Vumii. Rich specializes in integrated remote sensing systems for airspace, marine and ground applications and will lead expansion of DeTect's HARRIER Security & Surveillance Systems group based in Panama City, Florida USA.

  • May 20, 2010 - DeTect to Exhibit at the Farnborough International Air Show in England July 19-25, 2010 - DeTect today announced that it will premier its latest all-Doppler solid-state MERLIN Aircraft Birdstrike Avoidance Radar system at the prestigious Farnborough Airshow in England July 19-25-2010. The Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) is one of the world's most iconic global aviation events. FIA holds a prominent position within the aerospace calendar taking place on a biennial basis (once every two years) over one week in July.   • May 10. 2010 - New York's Fordham University Installs MERLIN Avian Radar System for Migratory Bird Study - DeTect today delivered and commissioned a MERLIN Avian Radar System to Fordham University as part of a study to assess the effects of city lighting on migratory birds. The study is headed Dr. J. Alan Clark of the University's Department of Biological Sciences. The MERLIN unit is a new p-series model that was developed to provide a more compact MERLIN system for difficult access sites and features a high clearance frame with off road axles and wheels and modular skid construction for the radars and power system.

  • April 30, 2010 - South African Airport Starts Full Operation with the World's First Tactical Use of Real-time Bird Radar System Alerts in the Air Traffic Control Tower - The new King Shaka International Airport near Durban today started operation with the world's first use of a bird radar system directly linked to its control tower that provides real-time information and warnings on hazardous bird activity for aircraft-bird strike risk management. The MERLIN Aircraft Birdstrike Avoidance Radar installed in 2009 is used by controllers to provide automated, real-time risk advisories to pilots using a concept-of-operations developed by the South African Air Traffic Navigation Service, the airport and DeTect.   • April 28, 2010 - Boeing Insitu Group Orders DeTect HARRIER™ Air Surveillance Radar Systems for Scan Eagle UAS - The Insitu Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing, has ordered two HARRIER™ Air Surveillance Radar (ASR) systems to provide operating support for its ScanEagle™ unmanned aerial system (UAS). With this new order, DeTect will have supplied a total of four HARRIER ASRs to Insitu to date. The systems to be supplied will use DeTect’s next generation, low profile solid-state surveillance radar sensors and software with high pulse compression and Doppler processing. The units will incorporate HARRIER functionality for uncooperative aircraft detection, tracking and alerting; cooperative aircraft TCAS interrogation and display data overlay; and, severe weather and lightning alerting.   • April 19, 2010 - Riga International Airport Orders MERLIN™ Aircraft Birdstrike Avoidance Radar System - DeTect, Inc. today announced that it has been awarded a contract supply a MERLIN Aircraft Birdstrike Avoidance Radar system to the Riga International Airport (RIX) in Latvia. The bird radar system will be used by airport controllers to provide real-time detection and warning of hazardous bird activity to pilots. The MERLIN technology was selected by the airport under an open competition tender and RIX is the second commercial airport in the world to deploy bird radar technology for operational use in the air traffic control tower - the first being the new King Shaka International Airport near Durban, South Africa that installed a MERLIN system in 2009.
